There is lot of life, colour and movement in the underwater world of The Great Barrier Reef in Cairns known as one of the Great Seven Wonders of the World and said to be one Mother Earth's treasures. There are approximately 1500 species of fish, 350 types of corals, 400 species of molluscs, and about 10,000 species of sponges, in addition to sharks, dolphins, turtles and whales.

Further to this there is a wide variety of marine plants such as algae and sea weeds. Algae directly or indirectly feed many small marine creatures sustain much of the Great Barrier Reefs marine life.

Coral is a family name under which there are many types of soft and hard corals.

There are different species of turtles seen graciously swimming under water throughout the crystal clear waters of Cairns Great Barrier Reef. Sea Turtles being one the oldest marine creatures they are a protected species in all of the marine reserves as they are endangered creature.

Many gigantic whales are seen along with a few dolphins playing and dancing in the warm waters once again all these are protected.

Molluscs, a different branch of the animal kingdom have soft bodies with shells to cover them. They also have many species. One must always remember that there is a creature inside such a shell before picking it up. Shells are fascinating and many collect them but remember this is some living creatures home so look at it love it for its beauty and leave it alone.

Last but not the least there are so many types of beautiful coloured, decorated fish that can be witnessed diving in and out of the coral and swimming in schools in this beautiful underwater dreamscape.
